Everyone would love to be able to spend a fortune to get their loved ones gifts this holiday season. Unfortunately, a lot of us have to work on a budget, and we can’t afford to spend too much. This doesn’t mean you can’t get them nice gives. There are a lot of things you can do to complete all of your holiday shopping, while still staying inside a budget.

The first thing to do is make a list of everyone you want to buy for, and how much you are willing to spend on each person. Make sure you keep this within your budget, and stick to the list. Having a list before you start shopping will help keep you focused and prevent you from going overboard.

Once you know how much you can spend, it’s time to start thinking of gifts. Come up with an idea or two for each person, but don’t buy anything yet. Figure out what those things will cost you by doing some research. Shop around and see where you can get the best deal. Write down all the gift ideas on your list and come up with the best ones to by that will help you remain inside your budget.

When it comes time to buy, there are a few things you can do to make sure you don’t go overboard. First, use a debit card instead of a credit card. When you use a credit card, it tends to make people think it’s not real money. By using a debit card, it gets withdrawn from your account right away and you are forced to remember it. You don’t want to be reminded that you have a ton of debt once the holiday season ends. Another tip is to put things on layaway, and pay for them a little at a time leading up to the season. This can be a great tool for those expensive items and it won’t hurt your budget too much.

If you are not sure what to get people, there is always the giftcard option. With this you can get them a card to a store you know they love, or a card that works anywhere. You can then budget in exactly how much you spent, and you don’t have to worry about going overboard. The person you are buying for can then put it towards something they really wanted, but maybe wouldn’t have bought themselves.

Lastly, if you are on a very tight budget, there is always the option to make the person a gift. Handmade gifts have a personal touch that store bought gifts don’t always have. Even if you are not that creative, there are services that will help you make nice things at a cheaper cost. You could put old photos together in an album, or make them a custom mug for their morning tea. The old saying is true, it’s really the thought that counts. Don’t stress too much over what you are going to buy people this holiday season. Most people will just be happy to know you are thinking of them, and a gift from the heart can go a long way.
